I have been using CNCCodeMaker, download it for free from. It is not super sophisticated CAD/CAM, but a very nifty little program that will import DXF files, then you 'point and click' at the lines and contours you want to cut, it generates the code as you do so, picking the geometry and numbers up from the drawing. You can print or directly transfer the program to your machine. The result is a huge time savings in entering the points and lines, and also a huge reduction in keypunch errors. Like any program, it takes a little time with it to learn and get the best from it.
You gotta like the price! It is a more productive program than any I have tried less for less than $500. I have downloaded lazycam and had a quick look, it seems to be ideal for what we intend to do, although to be honest for the job we have on at the moment i have used hurco's conversational system at the machine itself, which got the job done. In an ideal world i could spend a week purely getting the dxf to g code software sorted and something like running for us, but we a fortunate at the moment to be busy and need to use the machine on a daily basis, as and when i get the time to play i will post how things are going.
